Finals Week

This week has been a brain twister. I’ve been studying every night since sunday, I have homework due, uncompleted papers to turn in, research papers also due. Let’s just say I’m ready to explode, but I’m hanging there. Anyway it’s the last day of 1st semester and finals. What I love also is that we get a three day weekend for all of our hardwork. I’m not sure how weel I did on my finals, I’m not that positive with all of them. Well hopefully I do well on them so I can pass this semester!

Internet Safety

 The Blog editor by andreas

If people would look at my digital self, people would might say I was creative with a few copyrighted flaws. Not everyone can take wonderful pictures and upload them into their website. But, it’s not right to take pictures, videos or other works that aren’t yours and publish them as your work. I have learned that copyright is enforce as a crime and you can get in serious trouble in the web community. I wouldn’t like it for people to go into my page and claim what is mine theirs. There are rules in which you have apply to be able to “share” works that aren’t yours to the world.

I think viewers might think bad if you have unwanted inappropriate things online. They wouldn’t want to come back and see my profile if they see something disturbing. Also, when posting pictures of yourself and people you know you have to be careful. There are many people who and pervs, you never know who’s out there! I do think I am creative in my posts and my whole website I just have to be careful what I post and in what I use. It’s better when you post things that are your own so you wont be worrying whether you are doing something wrong or you are defining someones work.

You have to be careful when using other peoples work and when you post your own work that can make you look bad. Your life can change in a minute when you put inappropriate things online, you always have to be careful. I think I have done a good job keeping my posts clean and appropriate.

“OLPC’s Founder Nicholas Negroponte”

In class we saw a video about the “One Laptop Per Child” program in the video the founder Nicholas Negroponte was presenting and explaining the idea of this program. The first thing Negroponte said in the beginning of the video is that it’s not a “laptop” program it’s a educational. The video presented the ideas and the accomplishments this program would do for children in industrialized countries, where children don’t have the same help as we do living in the United States. Some questions that I had after watching the twenty minute video were, how were the children in these foreign countries going learn how to use them, when they don’t even get help learning other educational information?Another question that I had about the OLPC is why did they only put the laptop in market for such a short time? Also, does he believe this will actually work? and, what inspired him to built this project?

We also watched other videos that explained more about what OLPC was, and what was its purpose was. This video I watched was called “Inside OLPC” .

Giada De Laurentiis is the host of Food Network’s Everyday Italian. She has great recipes ofcourse, of Italian plates. I’ve tried to make some of the faboulous food she has like “Torta di Pasta”. I followed her instructions from a video that was posted in the food network blog under “hosts”. It was a great video, kind of fast but very easy to understand and to go along with. The famous recipe of “Torta di Pasta” consists of:

  • 8 ounces of spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 3/4 cut grated parmesan
  • 3/4 cut grated fontina
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • tablespoons olive oil

I’ve learned a few different things online on the website food network. I’ve learned about Italian food and it’s delicate texture to cook a dish of it. One of my favorite Italian dish is lasgna, and chicken alfredo!

There’s a big difference between dry or fresh herbs, they both are used in food but some herbs have different flavor and color when dried and fresh, both can be used in one plate but in different times. You have to becareful when you put the          Spice Spoons by:Shipshewana Shops                                                                 herb in, some herbs like rosemary is put first and then added more if needed. Others are exactly put in the actual food but can be like “garnish” chives is a great example it can be sprinkled around the plate or be laid elegantly across the plate. You also have to be careful with each herb some need to be inside the fridge, others inside a bowl of water, and even a plastic bag. There are many different kinds of herbs like basil, oregano, parsely, tarragon, and cilantro.

Like there’s many different herbs there are also many different kinds of spices.  Spices are useful in both desserts and in the main dish. Examples of spices are cinnamon, cumin, ginger, vanilla, and peppercorn. I found out a lot of intersting facts and information online about spices and herbs, some of my information I found was in Herbs and Spices.                                                 “Herbs and Spices sold at a market” by National Geographic

20%Time

Twenty percent time was started by Goggle. The company let their employees work on something or invent something during that time. There 20% time is considered a working day in which they work on what they want. This day is paid like any other and if they do invent they’ll be able to make money off it.

My teacher has started a twenty percent time for us  where we work on anything we have always wanted to learn, of course it requires something that you can work on digitally. Some of my classmates choose different things that aren’t necessary about technology, of course some did like learning about some of the programs or simply learning sign language. In class my teacher showed us a video“Google Documentary” in which it explains about goggle’s 20% time, and what it is all about (I also embedded it).  Google Documentary

For my twenty percent time I choose cooking/baking. I have always wanted to be able to cook plates from other countries. Now with technology I can, people from around the world can post their different kinds of food and give instructions in how to make it. I use the internet not only to find recipes, but I can also use websties where they’ll teach you about spices, herbs and other guides for good food. Food Network.com is perfect website to find good recipes, and other guides to cook right! My favorite dish that I  learned about while I was studying herbs was Prosciutto di Parma-Black Pepper Quesadilla with Rosemary oil in the Food Network. Other websites that I use to find cooking recipes are dallasnews.com, kraftfoods.com, and Howstuffworks.
