Just like enchiladas, chilaquiles are made differently. Even though you think your way or the way that your family makes is the best way, there are different ways to make them. For instance, I thought you “had” to put egg on them but it’s optional make it your preference. Then, I had never seen green chilaquiles only well, red ones because I’ve only had those kind. One thing that is of chilaquiles are most known in Mexico, and mostly served as breakfast. Chilaquiles consits of tomato sauce, tortillas, “eggs” while cooking and after they are done you put ingredients such as wipe cream, cheese and other. What kind of chilaquiles have you done?

COOKIES!

One of the major dessert that has been popular amongst children of the age 5-13, who am I kidding everyone loves a good warm chocolate cookie with a cold glass of milk. Have you ever wonder how many different kinds of cookies are there? I have some of my favorite include chocolate, white chocolate, raisions, and many more so how many more can there be! I looked at a few a websites and found out that you can make a cookie out of any kind of flavor. There’s even a cookie out of cappuccino, and many different wild types of cookies I wonder if it’s possible to make a cookie out of anything, I’m going to ask around and see what kind of wild flavor I get.

Different Toppings For Hot Dogs!

This Tuesday I was unable to do my 20% percent time in class, but I did work on something at home. I started looking at the different kinds of toppings you can put on a hot dog! After I had a craving for one, from L.A. It’s kind of weird to think about it, what else other than ketchup, mustard, and relish can be on a hot dog. But, it has come to my attention that there are many different kinds of toppings to put on a hot dog. For example, in downtown L.A. where I sometimes go with my cousins there are food stands where they sell hot dogs. But they are not the regular hot dogs, they wrap bacon around the weiner which is really good. Also, they put cooked onions on top, but I just get it with the bacon and ketchup. Also I have seen and read that in other parts of the country people put different kinds of toppings in their hot dog.

20%Time 5-6-08

For my 20% time this Tuesday I decided to check out how “cup noodles” started and all the different kinds of flavors they had. As I checked the website of the cup noodles provider, “Nissin Foods” I found out a few facts about cup noodles. Well first of all, the founder of Nissin foods is Momofuku Ando. Some facts that I found in the website about instant cup noodles is where these cup noodles are made, which are two facilities, Gardena, California and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. There are a few questions that the public has asked and which the company answered, for example “Is it safe to eat the products “raw”? Answer: Some people have found that they enjoy Top Ramen as a  snack, much like potato chips. The noodles are broken up and eaten straight from the package or sprinkled on top of salads. Since the noodles are already cooked, it is totally safe to eat this way. These are the few things I found about, cup noodles while researching it.

Cooking Tips!

               CAULIFLOWER

I found a perfect website were you can learn cooking tips for any kind of foods, and not necessarily a food but also for a vegetable, fruit, or even seeds. This time I went out and looked and the tips they had for cauliflower,  an herb (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) in the mu stard family, related to the cabbage and broccoli and having a whitish undeveloped flower with a large edible head. Well in the website, “Cooking Tips” they give tips of how to keep the cauliflower conserved for more than a few days. To keep the cauliflower conserved it should ba kept stored at 35 degrees F with the leaves still on and good air circulation, like this the cauliflower will last for two weeks if the leaves are still attached but without them it will only last about two days. There are other kinds of tips given in this website in what to do with the cauliflower, also with other foods. This website is very useful if you are trying to figure what to do with leftovers,or if you are bored of the same old kinds of foods, try something different.  ”Cauliflower“ cc By: Liz

How many different enchiladas are there?

Well I always thought there were two kinds of enchiladas, beef and chicken. Even you don’t know what enchiladas are you are missing a good latin dish.  An enchilada is a traditional Mexican dish, which is made in many very different ways. It is typically made with a corn (maize) tortilla dipped briefly in hot lard or oil to soften then dipped in the chosen enchilada sauce. The tortillas are filled and rolled up, placed in a casserole dish, then layered with sauce and possibly other additions such as cheese and chopped onions or olives. Well I had never herd of different ways to make enchilladas only the way my grandma, my mom, and well my whole family. But it so happens that my aunt had a small get together for my uncles birthday and my cousin’s wife is making the food for the party. Well she made some kind of enchiladas but a different way, instead putting the chicken inside she put the chicken leg outside like a side dish, and she put tortillas stacked together with everything else you put on the enchiladas. I found out that even though “enchiladas” are a common dish in Mexico, different parts of Mexico make them differently. I’ve been wanting to do some research on how many different ways you can make enchiladas. Here’s a video from youtube where I found a video that shows you how to make a chicken and beef enchilada.

I’ve been trying to make my new favorite dessert for a while now, I have everything down to the smallest ingredient the only thing is I can’t seem to make time and make it. Well, I have been able to fine different ways to make a flan, which by the way is my favorite dessert as for now. Not only have I found different ways to make a flan but I have found different kinds of flans, like chocolate, coffee, orange, and coconut. In “Perfect Flan” there’s a perfect recipe where you can follow and esay to make flan, one way that is. Here’s the recipe just in case you can’t log in the website:

Sugar can be cooked two ways: “wet” or “dry.” Wet cooking is the easier method, because it gives you greater control over the degree of caramelization.

  • Sugar and water are brought to a boil; the water boils away and the sugar changes from pale gold to amber to brown.
  • You can stir the pan to help dissolve the sugar, but stop stirring once the mixture boils.

Dry cooking usually involves adding an acid, such as lemon juice, to keep the sugar from crystallizing.

  • Toss the lemon juice with the sugar until it’s the consistency of wet sand.
  • Heat the sugar until it melts. Don’t stir, which promotes crystallization–the caramel will seize up and be grainy, not clear–but you may swirl the pan slightly to help redistribute any sugar that’s starting to brown.

For either method, as soon as the caramel reaches a deep golden brown, remove it from the heat and pour it into the dish or dishes in which you will be baking the flan. (It will continue to cook once you pull it off the heat, so don’t let it get too dark or the caramel will taste bitter and burnt.) Be very careful to avoid burns.

This recipe isn’t the only way you can make a perfect flan. 20%Time 3/18/08

On tuesday for my 20% percent time I started looking for cakes I could bake for easter. I got a few recipes for diferent kinds of cakes at “fine Cooking“. This website helped me fine some recipes for easter. Since my food techniques aren’t quite so well as I want them to be, I wasn’t able to provide a easter cake for my family. But I was able to learn how to make a saute properly. I didn’t have a camara with me so I wasn’t able to provide a proper saute picture that I did. For all those people that cooking isn’t your priority or don’t know anything about cooking to save your life, sauteing is cooking  food quickly in the right amount of oil and/ or butter over high heat. You can use a skillet or saute pan, you just have to make sure that its big enough to comfortably contain what your cooking. My helper and ”Reluctant Gourmet.com” helped to provide and make a proper saute, that is said after being able to make a proper saute you’ll be able to create hundreds of dishes without a recipe.

20%Time 3-13-08

Since we didn’t have class on Tuesday, we had our 20% time on Wednesday. This Wednesday for my 20% time I looked on my Google reader and found new entries on recipes that people have tried. One that really interested me was a recipe of turkey and bacon rolls, which I found in my subscriptions of “simply recipe” by Elise. This recipe has been changed and remade differently by the cooks taste. Where I found this recipe there’s pictures where Elise tells you what to do step by step. I’m going to try this recipe for my cousins birthday. Lets see how good I can make it. I will have pictures of my cooking process of turkey and bacon rolls, an also some yummy banana cookies.

20%Time 3-4-08

On tuesday in class, I wasn’t looking for websites where they could teach me how to cook. I was just looking at the pictures on the net of food but that look good to frame, but also to eat. They look yummy, but beautiful some of them even to just stare at.  Here’s a photo I found while using Flickr cc, I just fell in love with that I put it on my flickr account. I kind of edited a few things on it but, I kept it the same just gave it a title. I got a little inspired by it and wanted to do something but I couldn’t do anything that beautiful and yummy looking. I was trying to play around with some cheese ritz when I got home and ended up making a mess. But I just like looking at pictures that look like masterpieces. Well, a new site that I was notify in class was as I mention before flickr cc, its really easy to find pictures of anything there, you just type key words and you’ll be shown a lot of pictures that go with the key word, you can change the picture mnay ways you want.
